Which plastics are safe for food grade storage containers with lids and how to use them?


Storing food and protect it from harmful chemicals is a big challenge nowadays. Certain types of plastic keep food protected from bad chemicals. 


But we will tell you about some plastic bases which leach chemicals in food and become the reason for several diseases including cancer, behavior disorders, lungs failures ETC. 

Some materials are harmful not only to our health but also to the environment. After knowing that question occurs in mind which material are safe for food grade storage containers with lids and how to use them?

Plastics that are safe for storing food are below:

# 1: Pete or pet (polyethylene terephthalate)

This is strong, clear, and, lightly weighted plastic. This is great for storing meal and water. They keep food fresh and long-lasting for a long time.

This is usually for beverages and some food items such as juices, soft drinks, water bottles, peanut butter, pickles, and salad storage.

# 2: HDPE (high-density polyethylene)

This plastic is weather-resistant and long-lasting too. You will find many food storage boxes that are made of HDPE. They are available in different sizes, shapes, and colors on market. 


They are great as water containers for some tasks like storing liquids, cleaning clothes, and washing dishes. Those Disposable round plastic containers made with HDPE are used for milk containers, hair products, and motor oil as well. 

#4: LDPE (Low-Density Polyethylene)

This type of boxes considered less toxic than other material. They are reusable but you will find it difficult to sanitize them. You could not store food in it for the long term. 

They are recyclable but sometimes it becomes difficult to recycle these items. This item is used as frozen meal bags, dry cleaning bags, and flexible bottles. 

#5: PP (Polypropylene)

Round microwave container with a lid is also made with this type of plastic. These boxes have many good qualities such as they are flexible and lightweight. They are usually known as heavy-duty containers.

They are microwave-safe containers because they have heat resistance and don’t leach harmful chemicals as other material boxes do. They are highly recommended to protect eatable things from grease, chemicals, and, germs.

This is used for making margarine tubs, potato chips bags, medicine bottles, plastic bottle tops, disposable diapers, pails, straws, packing tape, ETC. As they hold up well in the hot environment they can be washed in the dishwasher.

Knowing the plastic codes from 1 to 7

Well, we come to know about the plastic codes 1,2,4, and 5. Well! Do you have any idea about plastic coded 3,6, and 7? Whether yes or no….. Now we will last-mentioned codes. 

Those boxes which have numbers 3,6, and 7 should be avoided. They leach chemicals at high temperatures when you store food in them.
